Introduction: Members of the AMANI Forum, Kenya Chapter, hosted some members of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Great Lakes Region of Africa (APPG), to a dinner meeting. The meeting was held on 13th March, 2009 at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi. The APPG was represented by Hon. Mary Creagh, MP and Hon. David Chaytor, MP (both members of the British House of Commons) and Mr. Stephen Carter, the APPG Co-ordinator. The Kenya Chapter was represented by Hon. Ekwee Ethuro, MP (Chairperson), Hon. Kiema Kilonzo MP (Secretary General), Hon. Prof. Margaret Kamar MP (Treasurer), Hon. Charles Kilonzo MP (Member), and Hon. Nur Abdi, MP (Member). Also in attendance were Ms. Salome Katia, Executive Secretary, AMANI Forum, Ms. Dorothy Kittany, Accountant, Ms. Magdalene Kieti, Ag. Kenya Chapter Co-ordinator and Ms. Deborah Kalei (Communications Intern).

AMANI Forum Kenya Chapter Mission to Assess the Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons in Uasin Gishu District 30th December 2008 |

A delegation of Parliamentarians, members of the Great Lakes Parliamentary Forum on Peace – AMANI Forum Kenya Chapter, undertook a Mission to assess the resettlement process of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Uasin Gishu District, Rift Valley Province on 30th December 2008. The one day Mission was led by the Chapter Chairperson, Hon. David Ekwe Ethuro, M.P. Other Members included Hon. Prof. Margaret Kamar M.P., Hon. Jeremiah Kioni M.P., Hon. Erastus Mureithi, M.P., and Hon. Peris Simam, M.P. They were accompanied by Mr. Joseph Hongo, the Chapter Coordinator.

The Executive Secretary of AMANI Forum, Ms. Salome Katia attended a Dialogue Forum on Conflict prevention and the fight against illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons. The Dialogue was held in Brussels, Belgium from 16th to 17th October 2008. It was organized by the Madariaga – College of Europe Foundation and the Folke Bernadotte Academy, in cooperation with the French Presidency of the European Union, the General Secretariat of the Council, the European Commission and the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO). This Dialogue Forum discussed the link between conflict prevention and the illicit trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and tackled its implications in the African Continent.
