AMANI Forum, Kenya Chapter holds it’s Annual General Assembly (AGA),

10^th February 2009

The Kenya Chapter of AMANI Forum held its Annual General Assembly on February 10^th 2009. The elections, which saw members elect National and Regional Chapter leadership, were held at the old Chambers in Parliament Building.

AMANI FORUM & POST-ELECTION CRISIS IN KENYA

MPs from across the political divide have formed an inter-I party parliamentary group to spearhead efforts to end the Lcurrent crisis in the country.
The Inter-Parties Parliamentary Group II (IPPG 2) will be convened under the framework of the Kenya chapter of the Great Lakes Parliamentary forum on peace also known as the AMANI forum.
The decision to form the group was reached unanimously by about 105 MPs following deliberations over a number of issues concerning the wave of violence.
The MPs held a crisis meeting at the Old Chambers of Parliament on Tuesday where they agreed on among other things, to petition President Kibaki to reconvene parliament as soon as possible to allow them to comprehensively discuss the prevailing issues in the country.

Kenya Chapter holds a Parliamentary Workshop on Truth, Justice and Reconciliation

Following the violence triggered by the controversial 2007 presidential elections, the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation Committee, led by former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, proposed the formation of a Truth Justice and Reconciliation Committee (TJRC) to examine historical injustices from Kenya’s independence up to February 2008. The proposal for the creation of the commission was accepted and the government subsequently drafted a law on the formation of a TJRC.
